The Mi’gmaq community of Listuguj moved their municipal garage operations to new premises and wanted to remediate the site of the old garage. Since a previous study had revealed the presence of certain contaminants in the soil beyond the applicable federal criteria, the community mandated Nvira to carry out additional environmental characterization work to better define the contaminated soil enclaves identified previously.

Nvira was mandated by the client to initially carry out a environmental site assessment (phase I). This study concluded that the site was exposed to several environmental risks related to its past use. Therefore, an environmental characterization of soils and groundwater was subsequently carried out on the property. Depending on the analytical results obtained and to define the limits of the contaminated soil enclaves, several characterization campaigns were planned and carried out. The environmental remediation work began with the excavation of the surface soils having presented concentrations in accordance with the applicable criteria, by stacking them on waterproof canvases on the site, and by sampling them. Then, based on the analytical results obtained during the characterization studies, the underlying contaminated soils were excavated, loaded directly into trucks, and disposed of off-site.

The team was mandated to carry out an environmental assessment update and additional certified environmental characterization in the context of a closure of a service station. Initially, Nvira was responsible for updating the environmental site assessment (Phase I) previously carried out by a third party, and then carrying out additional environmental characterization work to better define the identified contaminated soil enclaves. Once the analytical results were obtained and interpreted, various environmental remediation scenarios were developed and proposed to the client.

Since the previous studies had revealed the presence of certain contaminants in the soils, our client commissioned us to carry out the evaluation and interpretation of the analytical results made by third parties, then to carry out environmental remediation work on the soils at the same time at the location of ten contaminated soil enclaves identified on the site. Prior to this work, Nvira prepared and submitted to the MELCC a remediation plan for approval, which included the excavation of a part of the contaminated soil and the in-situ treatment of another part.

Following the discovery of soils contaminated by petroleum products for a property on which service station activities had taken place, our team was mandated to carry out an environmental remediation of the property’s soils and to write the remediation report.
The remediation works were spread over approximately 4 months considering the technical constraints on site, and it involved the management of approximately 5,000 metric tonnes of contaminated soil.

Our 24/7 emergency response team quickly took care of decontamination works on a stretch of highway of over 400 meters long following a major oil spill, and therefore limited the impact of such an environmental disaster.

Thanks to the collaboration and proximity with our client and our partners, we were able to carry out the work in less than 24 hours.

Nvira was mandated to carry out the environmental rehabilitation and drafting of the report for the rehabilitation of a commercial property located in Sherbrooke following the environmental characterization carried out by our experts in the fall of 2020. The characterization showed that the site was contaminated beyond the applicable criteria for several physicochemical parameters. The rehabilitation involved the management of more than 1000 metric tons of soil.​

The rehabilitation was carried out following the recommendations of the MELCC Guide. In addition, our team of experts carried out the characterization of the residual soils to confirm their quality, budget monitoring of the work, approval of invoices from the various stakeholders, participation in site meetings to achieve the objectives pursued by each, and, finally, the production of the environmental rehabilitation report summarizing all the environmental work carried out there.​

Our mission was to dismantle the petroleum equipment and the awning of a service station. Our work essentially included the demolition and layout of the concrete deck, the dismantling of the awning, the cleaning, removal, and arrangement of the four fiberglass tanks, piping and vents, and, finally, the backfilling and the finishing of the land.​
